Britney Spears was performing at the House of Blues in Florida on Saturday night (19.05.07) when technical glitches saw her backing CD skip repeatedly, exposing her miming.

A source is quoted by gossip website TMZ.com: "It was an ugly scene. The crowd started jeering and heckling her. Britney looked absolutely devastated."

"When the CD started skipping during the song ‘Do Somethin'’, Britney hid her face and turned her back. Then, when it resolved itself, she turned around with this look on her face like she was going to puke."

Hundreds of fans had queued for hours and spent as much as $500 a ticket to see the show. The appearance was part of a series of 15-minute concerts which have seen Britney perform live for the first time in three years under the pseudonym M+Ms.

After the initial hitch, Britney suffered further technical problems, which left her "rolling around on the floor with her headset broken".

Jessica Simpson and John Mayer Split

Jessica Simpson and John Mayer have ended their romance – but perhaps not for good, a source close to Simpson tells PEOPLE.

"They have broken up," says the source. "But they have broken up and gotten back together at least ten times before."

According to the source, the pair are in constant contact – even as Simpson promotes her film Major Movie Star at the Cannes Film Festival in France. "They talk to each other at least six times a day. I don't know if this breakup is permanent, but for right now they are broken up."

In fact, the pair have "been emailing and talking to each other," since Simpson went to Cannes, says a Simpson friend. "I'm sure they'll get back together."

Paris Hilton Will Not Appeal Her Jail Sentence

Paris Hilton will not appeal against her 45-day jail sentence.

Paris' lawyer notified Los Angeles County Superior Court of his client's decision yesterday (17.05.07), court spokeswoman Katherine Roberts revealed.

The 26-year-old, who is due to begin her sentence on June 5, will only serve half of her sentence - about 23 days - after being rewarded for good behavior.

Los Angeles County Sheriff spokesman Steve Whitmore has slammed reports Paris could leave prison within hours of arriving due to the prison's overcrowding issues - and wouldn't reveal if special security arrangements have been made for her.

Eva Longoria, who is set to marry basketball star Tony Parker on July 7, keeps changing her mind about details for her big day, infuriating organizers.

A source said: "The wedding is still very much on, but Eva is creating a lot of work for everyone. She changed the flowers three times and her dress has been altered a couple of times. Then there’s the guest list, which is constantly under revision. I think everyone involved will be glad when Eva finally ties the knot."

Lindsay Lohan can no longer trust her friends after photographs were leaked showing the star snorting cocaine in a hotel toilet.

The actress was recently (06May07) left "inconsolable" when a tape leaked to British newspaper The News of The World appearing to show Lohan using the drug with friends in a Los Angeles club bathroom.

Lindsay’s mother Dina says although her daughter is no longer "bothered" about the tape, its release has made her aware of her naivety.

She says, "We’re not reading anything about it. You can’t let it bother you. We work so hard, then some girl just tried to make money off her (for that tape). Lindsay doesn’t even know who her friends are."

Avril Lavigne has laughed off claims she stripped topless for the front cover of Blender, insisting camera trickery meant she could keep her clothes on.

The pop star shocked fans by flashing her flesh on the front of Blender magazine’s June (07) edition - particularly as she had criticised chart rivals for doing the same.

But Lavigne reveals she was actually dressed under the banner that barely covers her breasts.

Lindsay Lohan's new romance with British model/reality TV star Calum Best is reportedly in trouble after the pair were caught up in a screaming match in a New York hotel.

The New York Daily News reports Lohan had to be escorted to her suite at the posh Soho Grand by hotel staff after guests complained about the noisy outburst on Monday night (14May07).
According to hotel guests, the couple appeared to have fallen out over reports Best has been cheating on his famous lover.

One onlooker, who spotted the couple rowing in the hotel’s lobby, tells the Daily News, "Calum’s clothes were torn, and after a few minutes, they got back into the elevator and went back to their room." But, in a conflicting report, it appears Lohan returned to her penthouse suite after an evening out with friends and "was screaming about how Calum was cheating on her".

The couple appeared to have patched up their differences 24 hours later, when they were spotted kissing and cuddling at New York hotspot Stereo.

Daddy Simpson Approves of Jessica's Lover John Mayer

Jessica Simpson has been dating John Mayer since last August and has won her father Joe’s approval with her latest relationship.

Joe told People magazine: "If Jessica is in love, I love the things she is in love with. I want her to be happy. I’m always a fan of John. I love him - he’s got great music." Jessica’s father hasn’t always approved of her previous lovers. He warned his daughter marrying Nick Lachey could ruin her career.

Jessica, whose divorce from former 98 Degrees singer Nick was finalised last June, said: "Everybody thought, including my father, that my marriage to Nick would kill my career."

Joe is convinced Jessica will be happier with John because they have a different fan base and are equally famous.
