Brandy finally has something to smile about as she battles accusations she caused a December freeway pile-up that left one motorist dead - she's allegedly become engaged.

Tyrese Gibson has proposed to single mom Brandy, according to internet gossip site Hollyscoop.com.

Sources claim the couple has secretly been an on-and-off item for years, and Gibson asked Brandy to be his wife at a family party held earlier this month.

The party, which Brandy threw for a pregnant pal, quickly became an engagement bash, according to the website.

Like his reported new fiancee, Gibson has faced legal problems in 2007 - he was at the centre of a criminal investigation after reportedly punching his pregnant girlfriend in the stomach in January.

At the time, police sources in Los Angeles confirmed the 2 Fast 2 Furious star's live-in girlfriend, who was then five months pregnant, called police claiming the singer had punched her in the stomach twice during a heated argument.
